The entire Milton-Lewes-Rehoboth tri-town area is peppered with LGBT-owned and operated restaurants and businesses. The LGBT population is active in civic affairs, sports, theatre, entertainment and the health and service industries. CAMP Rehoboth (Creating A More Positive Rehoboth), a long-standing LGBT organization dedicated to creating an inclusive environment, serves the LGBT community with year-round events, an information bureau and the publication of LETTERS, a monthly magazine.

Its close proximity to nightlife and beaches, golf courses, fishing, boating, shopping, travel and fine dining offers easy access to suit a variety of tastes. It is a small town, rich in history, architecture, flora, fauna and amenities. Milton is known as a “gay friendly” place to live, and lesbians and gay men are active in local government, the Chamber of Commerce, and community organizations. Part-time and seasonal jobs, which often appeal as “second careers," are plentiful in the tri-town area.

Real estate property taxes are exceptionally low and the state offers property tax relief programs for residents age 65 and older and for residents with disabilities. Homeowners 65 and older get a credit equal to half of the school property taxes, up to $500. Social security and railroad-retirement benefits, out-of-state pensions, and investment and pensions for those 65 years and older qualify for partial income tax exemption. The state has low unemployment and financially stable state and local governments.
